A young man is dead, and an investigation is underway after a shooting inside a Loudoun County, Virginia home.

A Sterling homeowner told deputies he shot and killed an intruder early Sunday. The principal at Park View High School says the teen who was killed was Caleb Gordley.

There was an assembly at Park View High School on Monday. Facebook was buzzing with people speculating about the cause and the identities of the people involved but we are only releasing information confirmed by police.

Here’s what we know: Around 2:30 Sunday morning a man told police that he shot and killed an intruder inside his home in the 45900 block of Pullman Court in Sterling. While our crew was there, investigators returned to the scene and spoke with residents inside the shooter’s home and people from a home two doors down, said to be the victim’s home.

Police did not say whether the intruder was armed or if he threatened the residents in some other way, but the homeowner shot and killed the young male. Caleb had been drinking and was dropped off at home by friends, but instead of entering his home he somehow got into the neighbor’s house two doors down.

If you have any information regarding this incident, you are asked to call the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.
