This past weekend I made it my mission to explore The Weeknd, and although he is a new school artist he has an old school work ethic, with incredible creativity and self motivation.

Which led me to this thought:  What are the makings of a legend?  The dictionary defines legend as

a nonhistorical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical.

So with that being said lets explore the growing legend of Abel Tesfaye “The Weeknd”.

Although The Weeknd is hard and heavy on social media he is very elusive.  He marketed his first three albums on YouTube and his own website for FREE.  According to folklore he quickly developed a cult like following as his mixtapes were sweeping the world.  He then caught his biggest fan of all, fellow Canadian and rapper DRAKE.

He began touring before being signed to a record deal.  The Weeknd started off his tour performing at the 2012 Coachella Music Festival.  That must have been the year of the legend, at Coachella that year, because that was the same year that Tupacs hologram rocked the stage.

After the success of his first quote, unquote HIT track, “Wicked Games”  from his compilation CD in 2012 he then recorded his first studio album “Kiss Land” in 2013.

He continues to grow in fan base and be blue print of social media execution.  Although little is known about his personal life, like all legends and more importantly real music artists do you really need to know? :)
