CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –It was two years ago today that three women were rescued from a Seymour Avenue home in Cleveland.

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight had been missing for a decade when they escaped Ariel Castro’s man-made prison, with the help of Charles Ramsey and Angel Cordero.

Knight was 21 when she went missing. She was last seen in 2002 leaving a cousin’s house. Berry was 16 when she disappeared in 2003 while walking home from Burger King where she worked. It was the day before her 17th birthday. DeJesus was kidnapped a year later walking home from school. She was just 14-years-old.

During their years of captivity, Berry gave birth to a daughter fathered by Castro.

Castro, 53, was arrested later that day, May 6, 2013, and eventually pleaded guilty to 937 counts including two charges of aggravated murder related to one act of forcing Michelle Knight to miscarry.

In August of 2013 Castro was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 1,000 years. After about a month in jail he committed suicide by hanging himself.
