GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio – Garfield Heights Police Department officials identified the person who was shot and killed in a barbershop Tuesday night as Charles Davis.

Davis, 29, was shot following a fight with another man at the Skills Barbershop about 5:30 p.m. Police said Davis was a regular at the barbershop and was considered to be a customer.

During an emotional press conference Sgt. Jim Mendolera and Davis’ relatives discussed the details surrounding the early stages of the investigation and pleaded for help in identifying the barbershop shooter. Three of Davis’ relatives spoke during the press conference, including his mother, who was visibly emotional and tightly held on to the podium she spoke from.

“Please come forward. We lost someone very important to us,” she said as tears rolled down her face and her voice trembling. “I don’t know how I’m going to bury my son.”

Police said a man entered the barbershop with a 5-year-old boy and began to have small talk with several other people who were in the barbershop at the time.

A short time later, and while the boy was getting a haircut, the man noticed Davis walking into the barbershop.

It is unclear how the two engaged, but the man and Davis knew each other from a previous incident, police said during a Wednesday press conference.

The man opened fire on Davis and ran away from the barbershop with the small child.

Descriptions of the shooter were vague.
