She will follow in the footsteps of former ‘Idol’ contestant Adam Lambert, who appeared to on the most recent episode, and Usher, who appeared on March 30, to offer his critiques.
The songstress, who is currently performing dates on her ‘Freedom’ tour with Robin Thicke, will equip the ‘Idol’ hopefuls with advice for performing “inspirational” songs. Her coaching will fit with the week’s theme of charity and giving back. Following her mentoring session, Keys will appear on the show again on Wednesday night, April 21, to perform for the “Idol Gives Back” special. Queen Latifah will join Ryan Seacrest as a special guest host for the night.
Other performers on Wednesday night will include the Black Eyed Peas, Mary J. Blige, Carrie Underwood, Elton John, Annie Lennox and Justin Bieber. The special is intended to raise money for several charity foundations, including Feeding America, Children’s Health Fund, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation. While the recession deterred last year’s ‘Idol’ fundraiser, the event brought in $140 million in 2007 and 2008. And despite the charity event, one contestant will be going home.
