Prayers are in order as it is being reported that the sister of the legendary music artist, Prince, Tyka Nelson, has passed away at the age of 64 years old.
The news of Tyka Nelson passing was confirmed by her son, President Nelson, to the Star Tribune, as well as their cousin in a social media tribute. According to President Nelson his mother passed away Monday morning. No other information was shared as to the cause of death.
Tyka and Prince Rogers Nelson were the only children of John L. Nelson and Mattie Della Shaw Baker, with five half-siblings who were involved in a legal dispute over Prince’s estate after his death in 2016. In May 2017, a ruling confirmed that Tyka and her half-siblings would equally share Prince’s assets following his tragic overdose. Tyka was dedicated to preserving her brother’s legacy, playing a crucial role in transforming Prince’s recording studio and concert venue, Paisley Park, into a museum honoring his life and artistry.
Tyka Nelson, much like her brother Prince, was musician who was married to husband Maurice Phillips, with whom they shared six children: daughters Danielle Phillips, Crystal Phillips, Chelsea Phillips, and sons Rachard Phillips, Sir Montece Laeil and President.
We will be keeping the Nelson family uplifted in our prayers.
