California state officials have revealed that seven of Michael Jackson‘s doctors have been officially cleared for their involvement in the late pop star’s death.

The Associated Press reports that on Wednesday (July 28), the announcement was made that charges would not be pressed against the doctors, who were under investigation by California’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement.

The Drug Enforcement Agency has also reportedly dropped its investigation against Jackson’s doctors, who will be breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Unfortunately, representatives for the King of Pop’s family members are not taking the news in stride. “I am very disappointed,” stated an attorney for Michael Jackson’s father,Joe Jackson. “The misuse of medications by Michael Jackson in the last years of his life was excessive and to fail to bring that to the public eye is ignoring reality.”

Jackson’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, was not amongst the group of doctors who were cleared, however, and his trial will continue as planned. Murray has pleaded not guilty to the involuntary manslaughter of the pop star, after allegedly providing Jackson with an extremely powerful anesthetic that caused his death.

The preliminary hearing in Murray’s trial is scheduled to take place in August. He faces up to four years in jail if convicted.
