AKRON, OH (WOIO) –

A campus controversy at the University of Akron after a school official sent an e-mail to students, but it only went to some of them.

The e-mail was sent out after a rash of crime around the University.  The official claimed he wanted to keep students safe, but all it did was upset the people who received it.

The warning only went to black students, and also reminded black male students to “cooperate with police” when stopped.  it goes on to say not to use profanity, don’t run and to identify yourself.

Some students give the University credit for not being politically correct saying it’s not degrading, it’s just asking for help.

The e-mail is part of a campus-wide safety program after a recent rash of robberies.  The idea for the e-mail came from students at a campus-wide summit.

Other students say, if they want to do something, why not just strengthen security?
