Columbia Gas reports that 1,500 residents of Elyria are without gas Friday evening.
Ray Frank with Columbia Gas said the company had a mechanical device malfunction today, but it was repaired Friday afternoon.
Now, 60 workers have to visit all the homes affected to turn off their valve, resume flow to the house, then come back to turn their valve back on. They’ll then re-light residents’ appliances.
Frank said they are urging residents to leave their porch lights on to help keep the area illuminated. They’re also asking that somebody be at the home to let the workers in to get the problem resolved.
Crews will be working around the clock.
Residents should know that workers will be in marked Columbia Gas vehicles, and will also have photo ID badges.
They are hoping to have gas restored to all residents by Saturday evening at the latest.
Elyria Police are aware that workers will be out in the area, if a resident is uncomfortable or afraid of a worker, they can call police.
