SOUTH EUCLUD, Ohio – A South Euclid man is killed in front of his home Sunday morning and family members told NewsChannel5 he was beaten to death by his son.

Police said just after 9 a.m. they responded to a domestic disturbance at 4086 Princeton Boulevard.

According to a relative, 61 year old Oliver Diggs was trying to stop a fight between his wife and his 30-year-old son. But once Diggs stepped in, the fight escalated.

Neighbor Terrance Roberts said he watched the father and son fighting outside from his second story window.

“The younger gentleman, he just started hitting him on the head with a rock,” said Roberts.

Roberts screamed for them to stop, but they wouldn’t. He said the son picked up a big brick and went after his father.

“He knocked him to the ground and once he was on the ground he just kept hitting him in his head, said Roberts.

Diggs’s stepson told NewsChannel5 his 30-year-old stepbrother suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

“That’s my brother, you know, I dislike what he did. He wasn’t in his right mind when it happened. I know that,” said the stepson, said Charles Whatley.

The 30-year-old son was taken into custody, but no criminal charges have been filed yet.

His mother was injured during the incident and was transported to Hillcrest Hospital with minor injuries.
