MACEDONIA, Ohio – Several police departments in Summit County and the region are searching for a team of thieves who are apparently disabling alarm systems and stealing from Best Buy stores.

The two men and one woman have been captured on surveillance cameras at multiple Best Buy stores in Macedonia and Copley.

Police said the crooks appear to be familiar with Best Buy. They disable security alarms, distract workers and then steal cameras and laptops.

In a theft that occurred at the Macedonia store on Aug. 11, police said the trio took a Nikon D7000 DSLR camera from the display, stashed it in the woman’s purse and left the store without paying for it. Police said the surveillance video shows the men disabling the security alarm before cutting the wire to the camera.

A store employee told police only specific employees and the employees who install the alarm system know the location of the alarm power supply.

Police said they believe the alleged thieves have also hit stores in Mentor, Chapel Hill and Montrose, as similar reports have been filed.

If you recognize the people in the photos, call Summit County Crimestoppers at 330-434-COPS (2677). You may remain anonymous and could receive up to a $2,000 reward.
