Beyoncé and Jay-Z did their part to move the country forward by throwing a fundraiser for President Barack Obama.
The Carters know how to throw a bash in high style, and this time they did it to support the president. Last night the pair raised $4 million for him during an exclusive dinner at the 40/40 club.
Attendees could only get in for $40,000 per plate and space was very limited at just 100 guests. Since most people can’t afford to shell out that kind of cash to meet the president and the first couple of hip-hop, Beyoncé offered her fans a chance to attend the fundraiser if they donated $9 to the campaign by midnight.
The Obama campaign also held a random drawing for admission to the event for one winner and a guest.
As guests chowed down during the event, the president offered his compliments to his gracious hosts.
“Beyoncé couldn’t be a better role model for our daughters because she carries herself with such class and poise and has so much talent,” President Obama said during his speech.
Barack even acknowledged that he and Hov aren’t all that different. “Jay-Z now knows what my life is like,” said the president. “We both have daughters, and our wives are more popular than we are. So we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard, but it’s okay.”
