It’s not going to number 1 or even number 2 at the box office. But at number 3 “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions Of A Marriage Counselor” is looking like another winner for Perry.

And yes, that’s the full, proper title of the film. By the way, “G.I. Joe” Retaliation” is number I and number 2 is “The Croods.”

According to Deadline, the Tyler Perry written and directed erotic thriller’s projections are for a weekend gross of $21.75M which is on the higher side of expectations. The Lionsgate distributed film is reported to have only cost $20 million to make. Here’s more from Deadline:

“If that holds, Temptation will be the highest grossing Perry-directed film in which he did not appear as an actor. Tyler crossdressing as Medea become his biggest films but this could be the 2nd highest grossing non-Madea film. It’s Tyler’s 10th film, and 9th as a director, to open over $20M. Perry also was trying for a more sexualized movie “to freshen the Tyler brand”, according to distributor Lionsgate, thus challenging his dramedy fanbase. True, he risks losing that audience by rebranding his movies or himself as an actor. (Note the weak opening of the recent Alex Cross where he was an actor-for-hire playing the famed detective of James Patterson’s novels.) But it’s hard to argue with the benefits to Perry creatively of not relying on that awful Madea stereotype.” [sic]

We think Deadline is giving Tyler Perry a good ol’ backhanded compliment. On the other hand, they straight up gave Kim Kardashian a spanking for her role.

Meanwhile, director Antoine Fuqua’s “Olympus Has Fallen” came in at number 5, but after 2 weeks in release has already taken in close to $55 million. Number 4 is “The Host” which brought in an estimated $12 million.
