AKRON, Ohio – Whitney Solomon wasn’t exactly jumping for joy when she learned of her 10-cent raise.
Sarcastically, the 22-year-old woman, who works at a downtown Akron Subway, said, “Really? Are you serious?”
On January 1, 2014, Ohio’s minimum wage goes from $7.85 per hour to $7.95.
That means full-time workers will make about $200 more in 2014 compared to 2013.
However, Solomon, a single mother working her way through college, only works 12 hours a week.
She believes the minimum wage should be higher.
“I really agree that is should be more raises more often just because of the living expenses of how they go up,” Solomon said.
