(RNN) – Ben Carson announced that he will not participate in the Fox News debate in Detroit on Thursday, saying “I do not see a political path forward in light of last evening’s Super Tuesday primary results.”
Carson had a dismal showing in the Super Tuesday primaries, finishing last or next-to-last in all 12 contests.
“Even though I will not be in my hometown of Detroit on Thursday, I remain deeply committed to my home nation, America,” he said in a prepared release. “We must not depart from our goals to restore what God and our Founders intended for this exceptional nation,” he said.
Carson told CNN he is not planning on formally suspending his presidential campaign, but will explain in greater detail on Friday at the Conservative Political Action Committee Conference in Washington, DC.
