Pop star Usher Raymond (pictured) isn’t the only one having bitter fights over his children. Now, half-brother James Lackey is also having a messy child support squabble with his baby mama, and she isn’t buying his claims that he can no longer afford his child support payments because, in part, of his association with Usher, according to TMZ.
Lackey’s child support drama came to a head, when he reportedly filed a claim, stating that he can no longer contribute $1,300 a month for the child he had with baby mama Martina.
Martina isn’t buying Lackey’s claim, countering that his lofty lifestyle and business associations with brother Usher reveal that Lackey is more than capable of meeting his child support responsibilities. In court documents, Martina reportedly claims:
“Given his opulent lifestyle, he has substantial income and assets available to him. He produces music with and for his brother Usher, he owns a recording studio, receives royalties, and owns a home and has several cars.”
And Martina’s claims appear to ring true. According to TMZ, “Lackey [is] a record producer who has worked with the likes of BOB, Usher, Lloyd and many others….”
From the beginning, Lackey and Martina’s child support case allegedly had a vicious start, with Martina claiming that Lackey abused her and Lackey claiming she kidnapped their child. While their case is set to go to trial in May, as previously mentioned, Usher has been inundated with his own personal baby mama issues.
Usher has two boys, Usher Terry Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond, with ex-wife Tameka Foster. Back in 2009, Usher filed for divorce from Tameka, after a nearly two-year marriage. Legally, ish hit the fan late last year, when Foster, who has another three children from a previous marriage, filed court documents asking the judge to strip Usher of his physical custodial rights and grant her full custody.
According to Foster, Usher failed to ask permission to:
— get her approval before hiring nannies
— give her first shot to watch the kids when he’s away for more than 8 hours
— allow her to take the kids for 2-weeks in the summer of 2011
— let her have custody of the kids during Christmas break 2010
And the New Year didn’t calm Foster’s ire either. In January, she asked the court to force Usher to have a drug test and complained that the singer had canceled her Saks Fifth Avenue credit card, blocking her ability to enjoy the “special benefits” that come with the card.
While time will tell which parents will win in both cases, unfortunately, all children involved will continue to lose.
