We’re sending out a warning to all chefs to be careful in the kitchen on Thanksgiving. The number of kitchen fires triples on Thanksgiving Day.

If you should have a small fire and grab your extinguisher, it may not work.

WKYC Channel 3’s Brandon Simmons spent time with members of the Parma Fire Department, who shared these important tips:

1. Never, EVER fry a frozen turkey

Fire departments all across America, including locally in Valley View have been providing videos like these that show the dangers of deep frying a frozen turkey. A frozen bird in hot oil? That’s a no-no.

2. Arm yourself with the proper fire extinguisher

Kidde fire extinguishers are very common. However, earlier this month 40 million of them were recalled, leaving many homes vulnerable. The best solution is to get a new extinguisher until you can contact Kidde for a replacement.
