Yesterday, we reported that director John Singleton’s mother filed legal documents claiming that her son had fallen into a coma as a result of the stroke he suffered last week. In the documents, she petitioned the courts to essentially give her access and power over his finances so that she can complete a pending business deal.
Now, Singleton’s daughter is refuting her grandmother’s claims.
According to The Blast, Cleopatra Singleton, a sophomore in college, filed court documents of her own saying my “father is not in a coma.” She said that he is “progressing every day” and could be “out of ICU in 5 days.”
She says her father is breathing on his own and has only been medically sedated to keep his blood pressure low and allow the vessels in his brain to heal. She said he is responding to stimulus and “has even smiled on many occasions.”
Cleopatra believes that her grandmother, Sheila Ward, should not be named conservator over her father’s estate and person because there is a conflict of interest. Ward is Singleton’s personal and business manager.
Cleopatra believes that there should be separate conservators for each aspect of his life. She suggested her brother or grandfather take on the responsibility.
Cleopatra says Ward has “abused” her position as Singleton’s manager and has “stated she plans to liquidate his assets immediately and leave his children with nothing.”
As we reported earlier, Singleton’s mother claimed that Singleton has suffered a major stroke and was hospitalized in a coma. She said that because he was unable to make decisions or provide for his personal needs, she should be conservator over him to ensure that his business deals are properly handled.
A judge has yet to rule on either family member’s request.
