There’s been much speculation that the media mademoiselle “came out the closet” on the BET Awards. She may be private when it comes to her life, but we know to always hail to the Queen!

Queen Latifah has conquered stage, screen, and of course, the music industry, but she has always been very tight-lipped when it comes to her much-speculated about sexuality. When Latifah hosted the BET Awards on June 27, she surprised fans by making a joke about the speculation, saying that she’s “only seen in the company offine women.”

Of course, Twitter exploded. A search for the words “Did Queen Latifah just come out?” yeilded hundreds of results. But was that really the message that Latifah was sending? After all, she was “in character” as Cleo from her 1996 movie “Set It Off.” Younger fans might not remember that Cleo, a bank robber, was a lesbian.

Considering her tendency to keep her private life private, we’re going to guess that Latifah was just playing along with the skit, not making a serious statement. Regardless, props to Latifah for revisiting a 14-year-old character and having a sense of humor about it.
