I have no idea if it was coincidence or strategy, but the fine folks at San Francisco’s American Cupcake have chosen probably the most appropriate day — the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death — to leak the news that there now exists a fried chicken dish featuring red velvet cake breading.
The dish comes with cream cheese-infused mashed potatoes, and oh my God, why? I mean, in theory, this is one of those heavenly and amazing and awesome concoctions that are supposed to sound amazing.
But much like the KFC Double Down, this just sounds like a bad idea. It’s exactly the sort of thing that an obese Elvis would eat if he were still alive, testing every fiber of his dangerously overstretched jumpsuit. But he’s not — and you know why? Do I have to spell it out?
