CLEVELAND – The city of Cleveland issues and emergency parking ban as crews try to keep up with the pounding snow.

Martin L. Flask, Director of Public Safety said the ban is effective at 5 p.m. As a result, stopping, standing, and parking of vehicles will be restricted and prohibited on city streets with posted red and white signs until further notice.

Parking is prohibited on designated Snow Emergency streets, which are identified as necessary for transportation, the movement of food and fuel supplies, medical care, fire, health and police protection and other vital facilities of the city.

Earlier in day, the city of Cleveland said it was prepared for Wednesday’s snowfall.

As motorists are trying to get out of downtown, crews are trying to keep up with the heavy snowfall.

The comissioner of streets Randell Scott said crews are preparted for the return of winter weather anytime after November. He showed off the city’s Operation Snowbird equipment during a review of the city’s Winter Preparedness Plan.

Euclid Avenue and many downtown streets are clogged with traffic.

Many residents complained about their streets not being cleared during the heavy snow.

Scott said their first priority is the salting and plowing of snow on the primary city streets.

He said residents should find off-street parking  incase of a snow ban to keep cars from getting buried or towed.

The goal is to have all streets serviced within 24 to 36 hours after a snowfall, depending on the amount.

The Department of Public Servie has 16,000 tons of salt on hand to keep roads and bridges safe. The city is also adding five new snow removal trucks, bring the number of plows to 67.
