Many people think choosing to live a healthier lifestyle has to cost a lot of money, but that’s not always the case. Below, we’ve listed four wallet-friendly tips that help keep you (and your heart) healthy.

1. Buy Frozen Fruits and Veggies

They’re cheaper than fresh—and “may even taste better in some seasons because they’re flash-frozen at their peak ripeness,” Sharonne N. Hayes, MD, director of the Women’s Heart Clinic at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota notes. Similarly, consider getting canned or flash-frozen salmon or tuna—great sources of omega-3 fatty acids.

2. Get Screened for Free

Check pharmacies, grocery stores and hospitals, or contact your local American Heart Association office. Chances are you’ll also find screening programs for skin cancer, breast cancer and other conditions.

3. Ask Your Doc to Prescribe Cheaper Medications

“Almost every heart disease drug comes in a generic form, so definitely discuss price with your doctor,” says Jennifer H. Mieres, MD, a cardiologist at New York University School of Medicine and coauthor of Heart Smart for Black Women and Latinas. Some drug companies also offer financial assistance programs; your doctor can point you in the right direction.

4. Invest in Exercise Shoes and Resistance Bands

That’s pretty much all the equipment you need to stay physically active and fit.
