SANDUSKY, Ohio – As the holiday party season approaches, the State Highway Patrol is warning that Ohio troopers are being aggressive in stopping drunken drivers.

The patrol says an increased focus on impaired driving has meant about 1,400 more arrests so far this year, compared to the number at this point in 2010.

Troopers say the stepped-up enforcement has been accompanied by a 4 percent drop in crash deaths.

The patrol warns that the time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day can be one of the most dangerous on the roads. During that period last year, 39 people died in accidents that involved alcohol.
